Although latitude on iPhone has existed dating back to July 2009, it only existed as an HTML5 app and not a native app as noted by TechCrunch. Though when the software appeared in Japan app store (it pulled out unexpectedly) there are reports that it’s available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and will be available in more countries soon.

Basically Google latitude on iPhone has the same benefits for users of any phone type that has the application running on them. Differences are seen in it functionality. Primarily Google latitude on iPhone enables you to see your friends on a map and to know which one of them is nearer and possibly meet them. It also provides you the platform to share your location continuously with whoever you choose especially your loved ones while helping friends and family to stay in touch, even when you are busy and can’t take out your phone. The one exciting part of it functionality is that you are in charge of who must see and who mustn’t know your location at any point in time this include sharing only city-level location, hiding your location, or turning off background update at any time. It put you in control of your privacy.

The application exist as a web app running in Safari order than existing as a native software app, this according to Apple provides it users the best way to access and benefit fully from the software and also to avoid confusion with Maps on the iPhone, which uses Google to serve maps tiles.

Google latitude doesn’t provide a continuous background location updates in the same way as provided for Latitude users on Android, Blackberry, Symbian and Windows Mobile. This is simply because iPhone doesn’t have any mechanism for applications to run in the background.

For example you wouldn’t have to call me and find out where am I if you already have an idea of where i am by the help of your phone there wouldn’t be the need to call and this can prevent so many interferences that result when one receives a call during working hours, it saves time and money. Though its contribution to productivity may be small but it still adds up.

Again one great benefit that this app is bringing to the our  world is ‘‘let your phone direct you to wherever you are going, tell you your current location and give you a clue to  how close you are from your  destination . Sometimes asking people about locations only inform them about your venerability and you may at times fall prey to bad guys. If your phone can give you directions then it ensures your safety wherever you go.
